Occasionally you may see something like this on your screen: 
This is informing you that you have updates pending on your desktop or laptop. Without performing updates you will be missing out on security patches and new features. You * might * also notice slight glitches and issues with your experience / performance until the updates are pending.
Clicking on this notification will bring up the Software Center
( You can also find this in your start menu by searching " SOFTWARE CENTER ". The icon looks like this:
In the upper right hand corner you can click " INSTALL ALL " to have the computer start the updates.
You can also schedule your computer to do the updates automatically during non business hours. This can be accomplished in the options tab:
